McCracken, John Blaine
John Blaine McCracken, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Mercy Hospice House due to cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. Friends are encouraged to join John's family in celebrating his life.
Survivors include two sons, John Jr. (Debbie) and Ken (Maureen); two granddaughters, Lauren (Chris) and Erin; three grandsons, Kenneth Jr. (Samantha), Justin (Laura) and Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ernestine Rodriguez and Eileen Current; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; his parents, Ernest and Audrey McCracken; and two brothers-in-law.
He was born March 18, 1928, at home in Clinton County, Iowa, and married Judy Ashley in 1961. John served in the U.S. Air Force for six years and served in the Korean War. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 29 years in 1985. John enjoyed working with wood, reading westerns, giving a helping hand to neighbors, working in his garden and being with his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be directed to Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in memory of John.
