McCormick, Cecelia C. 'Shirley'
Cecelia C. “Shirley” McCormick, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta as celebrant. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, where a Scripture service will begin at 7 p.m.
Cecelia Clemantina Boisen, known to family and friends as “Shirley” was born Sept. 19, 1917, near Keystone, to John and Sophia (Pieper) Boisen and attended grade school in Huron, S.D.
On Feb. 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to Charles F. McCormick at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne. The couple farmed for 30 years before moving to Vinton. Charles preceded his wife in death on Dec. 20, 1985.
“Shirley” was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton she enjoyed membership in the Altar & Rosary Society, St. Mary's Prayer Line and the Legion Of Mary. She was also a member of Modern Entertainers, Vinton Woman's Club and Vinton Garden Club. “Shirley” had served as a volunteer at the Virginia Gay Hospital Annex. In her leisure, she enjoyed oil painting, her flower garden and watching her birds.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, William (Darla) McCormick of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Joanne (Robert) Kemnitz of St. Paul, Minn.; her grandchildren, Theresa Kemnitz, Lisa (Richard) Bock, Thomas Kemnitz, William (Catherine) Kemnitz, Megan McCormick, Kathleen (Jean Eric) Gnuva, Kelley (Robert) Rubin and Michael (Helena) McCormick; and her great-grandchildren, Katherine, Benjamin and Nora Bock, Francesca and Tatiana Gnuva, Samantha and Jacquelin Rubin and James and Caroline McCormick; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo, Donavan, Eldo, Bernard and Edward Boisen; and her sisters, Lillian Schatterman, Adeline Meyer, Elizabeth Nelson and Mae Hanneman.
