McClurg, DeVerne D.
DeVerne D. McClurg, 75, of Hiawatha, died June 1, 2011, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Noelridge Christian Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Robert Kunz will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Burial will take place at Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Surviving are his wife, Jennette; daughter, Cynthia Peterson of Lacey, Wash.; son, Michael McClurg of Marion; grandsons, Matthew and Cameron Peterson of Lacey, Wash.; and brother, Gary Joe McClurg and wife Jean of Hiawatha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Harlin Max, Harold Rex, Sherman DeWayne and Darrell.
DeVerne Doran McClurg was born July 11, 1935, in Monteray, Iowa, the son of Harlan Ottis and Zeffie E. (Wilcox) McClurg. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War with the 101st Airborne and later in the infantry. He was united in marriage to Jennette Seymour on July 21, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. He worked for 34 years at Collins Radio, retiring in 1991. He also worked at Parsons Technology for two years.
He enjoyed fishing, whittling and time spent with his family.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations in DeVerne's name may be made to St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ghosh, nurse Susan, aide Donna, the staff of St. Luke's Hospice, and the staff of West Ridge Care Center.
