McCarte, Marilyn C.
Marilyn C. McCarte, 83, of 3735 G Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday April 19, 2010, at Manor Care after a long illness. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Center Point Memorial Cemetery. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Serbousek (Mike Sorg) of Marion; a son, Daniel of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Richard (Helga) Harris of Oklahoma and two sisters, Bonnie (Dick) Walton of California, and Norma Gienau of Kansas.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tammy Burns, Ray and Katie Hardman, Shawn McCarte and Jessica Lovell; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mike; a daughter, Barb Clarke; three brothers, Ken, Neil and Eugene Harris; and two sisters, Arlene Gienau and Alice Matt.
Marilyn was born on April 22, 1926, in Montevideo, Minn., the daughter of Earl and Olive Derr Harris. She married William McCarte on June 6, 1949 in Reno, Nev. He died in 1970. Marilyn was a machine operator at Rockwell-Collins and retired from there after 25 years of service in 1991. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters. Marilyn was an avid fan of both the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings. She enjoyed working crossword puzzle, reading, and the time spent with her friends and family.
Memorial donations may be given to the Pythian Sisters or the American Heart Association in Marilyn's name.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Manor Care, St. Luke Hospice and Dr. Langager for the wonderful care given to Marilyn.
