McCabe, Dorothy Youngers
Dorothy was always active in her community, particularly with the church and in volunteer work. In her retirement years she was involved in the Homeless Lunch Program of Iowa City, the Voluntary Service Program at the VA Health Care System, and the Johnson County Historical Society. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, having served as the Coralville president and as first district president.
During her working years with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa, she was a member in and officer of the local chapter of the American Business Women's Association.
Above all, she was a loving mother and grandmother who liked to garden, travel, read, do needlework, play cards, and spend time with family and friends sharing stories and laughter. She always encouraged her children to excel in their own lives and was the rock of the family.
She is survived by her sister, one of her six siblings, Roseanne Lindberg of Glenwood, Minn.; her children Joan (Richard) Duvall of South Bend, Ind., Jack (Sandy) of Salem, Ore., Judi of Comfort, Texas, Jane of San Antonio, Texas, Jim (Dawone) of Salem, Ore., and Joleen (Steven Almanzar) of Las Cruces, N.M.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her longtime companion, Ken Krizan of Coralville; and many other family and friends.
