McAllister, Charles Richard 'Chuck'
Charles Richard “Chuck” McAllister, 76, of Marion, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m.Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Bev; children, Shelly (John) Kramer of Marion, Kim McAllister of Marion and Mike McAllister of Marion; six grandchildren, Travis (Erin) Kramer, Chelsea Kramer (Tommy Anderson), Zach and Tyler Sindelar, Logan and Lucas McAllister; a great-granddaughter, Kylee Kramer; siblings, Joe (Marge) McAllister Jr. of Florida, Alberta VanNest of Marion, Sister Dolores McAllister of Dubuque, Rita (Jerry) Hoffman of Wisconsin and Cecilia (Joe) Koob of Monticello; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Irene Huber, Paul, Jimmy, Margie Bakey, Tom, Bob, Don, Kathleen (in infancy), and Loretta Minton; and granddaughter, Ava McAllister.
Chuck was born Oct. 15, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Angeline (Klein) McAllister Sr. On July 11, 1959, Chuck was united in marriage to Beverly Long in Boone, Iowa. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1961. Chuck worked for the City of Cedar Rapids, FMC, Rockwell/Goss, and Enterprise Rentals.
He was a member of American Legion Post 298 of Marion and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, gambling, and golf.
Chuck was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Chuck's memory.
