Mays, Paul Richard
Paul Richard MaysPaul Richard Mays, 61, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at First Church United in West Liberty. Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Shawver Cemetery, Cedar Bluff. Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements.
Paul was born July 21, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Wallace and Dorothy Dedrick Mays. He was a graduate of West Liberty High School in 1969. On July 18, 1986, he was united in marriage to Cindy Achenbach Noring. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1991, with a degree in psychology and also received his Nursing Home Administrator's Certificate from Des Moines Area Community College that same year.
Paul was employed at the Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehab Center, Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, Donnellson Health Center, Montrose Health Center and of recent, was a paraprofessional at City High in Iowa City.
Paul loved the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy of West Liberty; four sons, Christopher (Brook) Noring of Elburn, Ill., Pablo (Melissa) Mays of Tuscumbia, Ala., Ian (Karli) Mays of Chicago and Gabe Rosales of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Jordan Mays, Nola, Audrey and Letty Noring; two sisters, Barbara (Jaime) Fairchild of Kendall, Kan., and Mary Ellen (Michael) Kuebler of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a brother, James (Sharon) Mays of West Branch; mother-in-law, Gloria (Jim) Fisher; sister-in-law, Tracey Achenbach; two brothers-in-law, Jeff (Linda) Achenbach and Rick (Aline) Achenbach; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Dick Achenbach.
