Maynard Parker, 87, a lifetime resident of North Liberty, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Crestview Care Center in West Branch. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa
City with burial to follow at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. To share a thought, memory or condolence with his family, please visit the funeral home website at www.gayandciha.com.
Maynard was born July 15, 1931, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Thomas J. "Jake" Parker and Ethel (Rogers) Parker. He attended schools in Johnson County, graduating from City High School.
Maynard was united in marriage to Lois M. Henderson on Oct. 6, 1951, in West Liberty. He began a career with the Iowa Department of Transportation in maintenance which spanned over 32 years before retiring in 1992.
His family includes a son and his wife, Tom and Terry Parker; his daughter-in-law, Rae Parker; four grandchildren, Kim Ordaz (Mauricio), Cory Parker (Shannon), Chad Parker and Derek Parker; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; son, Bob Parker; four brothers, Leland, Virgil, Melvin and Don; and two sisters Lois Seering and Arlene Singleman.
