Mayme Cechura, 101, passed away Sept. 7, 2017, at Heritage Specialty Care. Celebration of Life services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Hala Cemetery near Walford. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel.
Mayme was born April 9, 1916, in Norway, the daughter of William and Anna (Haeger) Kopf. She married Edward Cechura on Nov. 28, 1940. Mayme was a dedicated wife, mother to Mary Ann, and caregiver to many. She loved cooking, baking kolaches and apple pies, entertaining guests for dinner, playing cards, going to bingo and spending time with her family and friends. Mayme was a kind and gentle lady who was a joy to be around.
Mayme is survived by her sisters, Alice (Bill) Barker of Cedar Rapids and Anna Binley of Cedar Falls; as well as her nieces and nephews.
Mayme was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Mary Ann, who died Nov. 19, 2008; and her siblings.
