Maye Lorraine Kress, 94, of Marion, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Winslow House Care Center with her family by her side. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Dean F. Rothchild. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4-6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery
Maye was born on May 7, 1931, in Garrison, Iowa, the only daughter of Vernon and Alvena (Jabens) Gross. She graduated from Garrison High School. She met her husband Keith at a Seven up Dance at Armar Ballroom, and they were married for 68 years. Maye was employed with the Cedar Rapids School System in food service, retiring in 1990.
Maye cherished spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. In the early years, she was on the Altar Guild and Kitchen Committee. She also enjoyed her group of friends in card club which they met monthly for over fifty years. She and Keith enjoyed many activities together such as square dancing and camping with the Hiawatha Mohawk Camp Club. After retiring they traveled to visit family and friends in Arizona and Florida. Keith passed in May of 2020. She will be remembered for her sweet smile and her generous heart.
Survivors include her children, Deborah R. Miell (Dave) and Darryl Kress of Cedar Rapids, her grandchildren, Greg and Justin, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Keith L. Kress and her grandson, Trevor Miell.
