Maxine Towne Young, 90, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a brief illness. Memorial visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with the Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Inurnment in Evergreen Cemetery.

Maxine was born May 3, 1927, in Pipestone, Minn., the daughter of Martin and Josephine Sturzel Marth. Her parents moved to Tacoma, Wash., when she was a child and she attended Concordia School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma. On July 31, 1955, she married Harold Towne in Tacoma. He preceded her death on April 3, 1968.

Maxine moved to Vinton in 1968, and on May 24, 1974, she married Leroy Young at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. Leroy preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2002.

Maxine was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked for 30 years as a cashier at Fareway and greeted everyone with a smile. It is interesting to note that she worked in the food industry and her father was the inventor of the skinless weiner. Above all else, Maxine enjoyed time spent with her family.

She is survived by three sons, John (Barb) Towne, Tacoma, Wash., Tim (Gwen) Towne, Howard, Colo., and Terry (Patsy) Towne, Ewing, Mo.; one daughter, Patti Fetzer, Waterloo; two sisters, Patricia Egan, Puyallup, Wash., and Bobette Gates, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and her brother, Richard Marth.

A memorial fund has been established and the family asks that memorials be mailed to the funeral home, 1212 First Ave., Vinton, IA 52349.
