Maxine was born May 3, 1927, in Pipestone, Minn., the daughter of Martin and Josephine Sturzel Marth. Her parents moved to Tacoma, Wash., when she was a child and she attended Concordia School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma. On July 31, 1955, she married Harold Towne in Tacoma. Maxine was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked for 30 years as a cashier at Fareway and greeted everyone with a smile. She is survived by three sons, John (Barb) Towne, Tacoma, Wash., Tim (Gwen) Towne, Howard, Colo., and Terry (Patsy) Towne, Ewing, Mo.; one daughter, Patti Fetzer, Waterloo; two sisters, Patricia Egan, Puyallup, Wash., and Bobette Gates, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and her brother, Richard Marth.
A memorial fund has been established and the family asks that memorials be mailed to the funeral home, 1212 First Ave., Vinton, IA 52349.
