Maxine J. Halstead, 82, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Quasqueton, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Maxine was born March 17, 1936, in Eldora, Iowa, the daughter of Lowell and Bessie (Hellyer) Oaks. Her family moved throughout Iowa and Missouri when she was a child. In 1953, Maxine graduated from Quasqueton High School. On Oct. 24, 1954, she married Jon Russell Halstead at the Quasqueton Union Church. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, where Maxine worked as a teletype operator for Cargill before they returned to Quasqueton to farm. When her children reached school age, Maxine went to work for Rockwell Collins, where she worked in the white room for 34 years. In 1989, Jon and Maxine retired from farming and moved to Marion, Iowa.
She is survived by her two children, Nancy (Allan Stewart) Halstead of Iowa City and Richard (Anet Overby) Halstead of Berkeley, Calif.; and a grandson, Simon Halstead of Berkeley.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jon R. Halstead.
Maxine will be missed greatly by those who knew her gentle heart.
The Family of Maxine would like to thank the staff at West Ridge Care Center for the loving care shown to Maxine and her family throughout her stay.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at the Quasqueton Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Jennings officiating.
