M. Maxine Gibney, 88, of Palo, died suddenly Thursday, May 22, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at the Cedar Memorial Park Westside Chapel officiated by the Rev. John Howerton. Entombment will follow at the Cedar
Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Westside Chapel.
Maxine is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Danny) Gardemann of Palo; son, Jerry Gibney of Palo and friend Marlene Schneider of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Rhonda Murr of Yorktown, Ind., Chad (Liz) Gardemann of Phoenix, Ariz., Jimmy Gibney of Marion and Aaron Gibney of Palo; four great-grandchildren, Kendall and Kylie Murr and Landry and Bennett Gardemann; and sister-in-law, Norma McVay of Palo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lauren in 2012; her parents;
sister, Violet Armstrong; and brother, Wayne McVay.
Mary Maxine was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Palo, to Harry Everett and Ollie (Wiltsey) McVay. She married Lauren T. Gibney on Dec. 15, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas. She and her husband owned and operated the Palo Locker, Tri County Dairy and Bindler's Dairy throughout their life.
Maxine was a member of Palo United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, knitting, crocheting and quilting. Maxine enjoyed her flowers, especially red roses and making beautiful quilts for those she loved. Maxine had a big heart, always wanting to give to others. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who enriched the lives of all those she knew.
The family requests that memorial donations in Maxine's name be directed to the Palo United Methodist Church, in lieu of
flowers.
