Maxine passed away on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel, and a visitation on Sunday, Oct. 22, at Cedar Memorial from 5 to 8 p.m.
She was born Maxine Fay Taylor on May 28, 1932, the daughter of Harold and Stella (Trimble) Taylor, and graduated from Roosevelt high school in 1950.
Maxine had a distinguished career with Cedar Rapids Fire Department as the Secretary to the Chief(s)
and bookkeeper for over 25 years. She was endeared as the heart of the fire department at Central Fire station.
Maxine loved golf, traveling, bowling and playing bridge. She loved to watch sports, especially the Hawkeyes playing football and basketball.
The core of Maxine's life was the love of family and friends. Maxine was a lifelong active member of Olivet Presbyterian Church. Her faith reflected the love, strength and unending kindness inspired by her parents.
Maxine is survived by her children, Daniel Harris, Tammy Hannon and Nancy (Mark) Arthur; her grandchildren, Chris (Stephanie) Harris, Brenda (Jesse) Miller, Kerry (Mark) Schmitz, Tina Arthur, Tim (Amanda) Arthur, Matthew Hannon and Lucas Hannon; her beloved nephews and nieces, Robin (Jeff) Derlin, Dawn (Jerome) Dixon, Milton (Ramona) Taylor, Heather (Mitch) Golden, Susan Cannell and Steve (Evy) Taylor. Maxine touched the lives of many people in her extended family, with great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman M. Frueh Jr., her mother and father, brothers Ron Taylor & Milton "Bill" Taylor and her sister Joan Brown. She grieved the loss of her daughter Sheryl Lynn Harris and son David L. Harris.
Maxine was a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma as well as a true friend to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
