Maxine Ruby Epland passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. John Greve will officiate at the service. Burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.
Surviving are her children, Vicki Johnson of Cedar Rapids and David Epland of Marion; six grandchildren, Diane Rettenmaier, Laura (Billy) Fuller, Robert (Echo) Rettenmaier, John (Jillian) Rettenmaier, Scott Epland and Brian Epland; and three great-grandchildren, Cortney Fuller, Lexi Fuller and Mariel Rettenmaier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlan; two sisters; a brother; and a son-in-law, Butch Johnson.
Maxine was born May 30, 1923, in Mitchell County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Herbert and Christina Agusta Peterson. Maxine started working in high school for Hormel Packing. Then became a teaching aid for the Irving School system, which she continued for more than 20 years. On Nov. 25, 1948, Maxine Peterson and Harlen Epland were united in marriage in LeRoy, Minn.
She was a member of ALCW and enjoyed volunteering for numerous organizations. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
