Maxine E. Havill, 97, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Graveside Service: 9:30 a.m., Friday, June 20, 2025, Mount Vernon Cemetery. All are welcome to attend the graveside service, and immediately following, a gathering will be held in the fellowship hall at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
Maxine was born on February 20, 1928, in Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Vernis (Bredfeldt) Nation. She was united in marriage to Charles Havill on September 14, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Maxine worked for Mount Vernon Steel and Wire, True Value, and LECCEC Daycare in Lisbon before retiring at the age of 74. A strong believer in her faith, she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. Maxine's joy in life was taking care of her family, with the greatest joy, her grandchildren, watching TV shows and sharing stories with them. Before residing at the Mechanicsville Care Center, she baked, cooked, and welcomed her children into her home. The memories made and laughs shared, extended to each new generation. She is missed, and her love will be with us always.
Maxine is survived by her children, Sue Hadenfeldt, Warren (Denise) Havill, and Kevin (Doretta) Havill; 17 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great grandchildren.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charlie; siblings, Donald Nation and Beverly Behrens; sons, John and Mike Havill; and great-grandson, Bryce Flaucher.
In lieu of flowers, Maxines wishes were that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association or The Cancer Foundation.
Please share your support and memories with Maxine’s family on her Tribute Wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under Obituaries.
