Maxey, George
George Maxey, 90, of Coralville, died Monday, July 26, 2010. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Doyle officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
George was born July 15, 1920 in Iowa City, the son of George D. and Mary E. Farnsworth Maxey. He was a 1938 graduate of City High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. George married Margaret Hinchliffe on Aug. 26, 1941 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City.
George was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and served as the Postmaster of North Liberty until his retirement in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Margaret; his nephew, Hal (Leslie) Hinchliffe, of Minneapolis; his niece, Pat (Merle) Berry, of Salt Lake City; grandnephew and niece, Vince (Tiffany) Hinchliffe and Amelia Emery; and great-great-nephew, Cash Hinchliffe.
