MAVIS HEISHMAN
Hartwick
Mavis Heishman, 82, of Hartwick, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at Brooklyn Community Estates. There will be no funeral services. Burial will be at a later. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the future.
Mavis June Rinehart Heishman was born alongside her twin sister, Avis, on April 23, 1934, in Iowa County to Clarence and Merle Shedenhelm Rinehart. She graduated from Ladora High in 1953. Mavis married Maynard Heishman (later divorced) and lived in rural Brooklyn. They had three children: Kevin, Jeanne and Tracy. She most recently had lived in Hartwick.
Growing up, Mavis worked mowing yards, baby-sitting and as a waitress. She played piano and trombone and was a member of a small, scrappy girls basketball team for Ladora, winning the state tournament in 1950. She worked a number of years for General Telephone Co. She loved attending all of her children's school activities. She enjoyed music, theater, reading, history, refinishing, yard work, home decorating, antiques and especially her flowers.
Mavis is survived by her children, Kevin Heishman of Brooklyn, Jeanne Morris of Aurora, Colo., and Tracy Heishman of Hartwick; four grandchildren, Jeannette, Michelle, Fred and Sarah Morris, all of the suburbs of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Marcella (Fess) Parker of California and Avis (Gerald "Joe") Fraker of Victor; and a sister-in-law, Eileen Rinehart of Sturgis, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Inez Rinehart, Ireta (John) Daniels, Mervaille Rinehart and Elton Rinehart.
