Mavis Arlene Knight Moon Levsen, 90, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2022. She died at home, in her sleep, with her loving daughter at her side.
Mavis was born Feb. 16, 1931, in New Hampton, Iowa, to loving parents, Arnold and Irene (Hiserote) Knight.
The oldest of 11 children, Mavis was a graduate of New Hampton High School. She marrie
d her high school sweetheart, William Claire Moon in 1949 and had four children.
Mavis remarried in 1972 to Jay Burton Levsen. They were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mavis was a
loving, devoted wife and cared for Jay until his death on Dec. 5, 2014.
Mavis was employed at Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. from 1965 until her retirement in 1986. She started as a keypunch operator and worked her way up the ladder to becoming an accountant in the Treasury Department. After retirement, she started working for Ace Hardware until 2008.
Mavis is survived by one son, Jeffrey Paul Moon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her only daughter, Georgina Rae Moon of Eugene, Ore.; four stepchildren, Matt, Mark and Jan Levsen and Joan Villalpando; three brothers, Richard, Roger and Dennis Knight; two sisters, Merrilyn Knight and Susan (Knight) Hastings; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay; an infant son, Steven Claire Moon; her oldest son, William Arnold Moon; two stepchildren; K.C. Levsen and M.E. Zahorik; four brothers, William, Don, Robert and Harry Knight; and one sister, Carole (Knight) Severin.
Mavis wanted all of her loved ones to know, "It was a
good life!"
A memorial service for Marvelous Mavis will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2022 at Murdoch Funeral Home, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
She will be laid to rest in Olin Cemetery in Olin, Iowa, immediately following her memorial.
