Maurine (Struve) Forest, 95, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center. A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ in Tipton on Saturday, April 7. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon immediately after. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton.
Special thanks Dr. Nelson and all the staff at Hiawatha Care Center for their loving care of Maurine during her stay.
Maurine was born Jan. 26, 1923, to Hans and Elizabeth (Nielsen) Struve, in Clinton, Iowa. She graduated from Lyons High School in Clinton and attended the University of Iowa for two years. In 1943, she married Dwain Forest in Clinton. They moved to Chicago, where Dwain attended optometric school at the Illinois College of Optometry. Upon graduation in 1948, they moved to Tipton, where Dwain established his optometric practice.
Maurine worked as the church secretary at the United Church of Christ for many years. She later worked at the courthouse as a secretary in the Cedar County Public Health Department, retiring in 1987. Maurine remained in Tipton until 2016, when she moved to Summit Pointe Assisted Living in Marion.
Maurine's interests included golf, bridge, travel and reading, but her greatest love was her family. She was a member of the United Church of Christ for nearly 65 years, where she participated in choir and Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Tipton Country Club and TTT.
Maurine is survived by and lovingly remembered by her three sons, Jon (Marsha) of Vero Beach, Fla., Greg (Kay) of Marion and Mark of North Liberty; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwain; her parents; and two sisters, Jean Willis and Joan Harris.
Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ in Tipton.
