Mattison, Zanita Pauline
Zanita Pauline Mattison, 97, of Wexford, Pa., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013. Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends one hour before service time. Pastor Kay Slocum will officiate. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (David) Kruger of Lake Bluff, Ill.; son, Ken (Cathi) Mattison of Wexford, Pa.; granddaughter, Kristen Gallagher of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and grandson, Bryan Mattison, and great-granddaughter, Avery, of Cranberry Township, Pa.; niece, Marilyn Kurtz of Sacramento, Calif.; and nephew, George Brown of Huachuca City, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ada Fay; and husband, Franklin (Ben) Mattison.
Zanita was born in Buchanan County, Iowa, on April 3, 1916, the daughter of Clarence and Ada (Saxton) Fay at the family farm established by her great-great-grandfather, Joseph Fay. She attended Cedar Rapids public schools, graduating from the old Roosevelt High School and attended the University of Iowa. She married Ben Mattison on Oct. 14, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa.
Zanita spent 20 years in the accounting office of J.C. Penney.
She was a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society and Linn County Genealogical Society. Zanita also had been a member of First Lutheran Church since 1950.
Zanita was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
