MATTHEW MICHAEL SMITH

Matthew Michael Smith, 23, of Marseilles, Ill., passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home, Marseilles, with the Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 16, 1995, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Randy Kay and Ginger Smith (Alan Purcell). Matthew was a loving father and a hardworking kid. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, fishing and camping. His love for music encompassed rap, which he enjoyed performing. Matthew was a beloved, caring father and son and a generous person to all.
He is survived by one daughter, Sarah Rose Smith; his parents, Ginger Smith and Alan Purcell, and biological father, Randy Kay, all of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Miranda Smith; two brothers, Dustin and Curtis Smith, all of Cedar Rapids; his grandparents, Mary K. Smith and Ed Smith; his great-grandparents, Todd and Clarice Studer; two nieces, Sophie Ann and Haven Althea Smith; and his soul mate, Kaitlyn Kopta of Seneca.
Memorials may be directed to the family to help with funeral expenses.
