MATTHEW "MATT" HOSKINS
North Liberty
Matthew "Matt" Hoskins, 52, of North Liberty, died at his home on Sunday, June 20, 2021. Matt's family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 26, at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. A Celebration of Matt's Life will begin at noon. Burial with military rites are planned for 3 p.m. at Friends Cemetery in Pleasant Plain, Iowa. Instead of flowers and plants, the family suggests memorials to an education fund that will benefit Matt's daughter, Olivia.
Matthew Paul Hoskins was born Jan. 16, 1969, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Gary and Kathryn (Courtney) Hoskins. Growing up in Tipton, Matt graduated from Tipton High School in 1987. Matt enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for four years.
He received his AA degree from Ellsworth Community College and later graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Matt served with the Keokuk County Sheriff's Department, the City of Eldora Police Department and the Hardin County Sheriff's Department. Matt married Shannon Bergeson in August 2001. The couple later divorced.
Matt supported and attended his daughter's school and extra-curricular activities. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially wrestling.
He is survived by his daughter Olivia Hoskins of Buckeye; his parents, Gary and Kathryn Hoskins of West Branch; sister, Melissa Hoskins of Englewood, Colo.; brother, Marc Hoskins (Susan) of Bettendorf; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Shannon; aunt and uncle, Charlene and John Ibbotson; and his grandparents.
