Matthew Ferguson passed away at the age of 37 on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from the results of a heart attack. Though he left this world far too soon, he left it a better place.
Matt was known for his kind, gentle heart and great sense of humor with a smile for all. If you were his friend, he would give you the shirt off his back. He was a talented golfer and disc golfer who loved football, hockey and basketball. Matt will be sorely missed by his golf league companions at Quail Creek. Matt had a love for music, art and a heart of compassion for animals. Matt was a giver and respectful to everyone.
He is survived by his mother, Mary (Ray) Newkirk, his father, Scott (Joline) Ferguson, three siblings: Luke (Molly) Ferguson, Samuel Ferguson, and David (Kirsten) Ferguson, nephew, George Ferguson, stepbrothers Alex Newkirk and Miles Newkirk, girlfriend, Annika Bergstrom.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, February 12 at Terry Trueblood Park Lodge in Iowa City from 4-8 pm. A visitation hour will be followed by a service at 5:30. Catering will be by The Vine Restaurant where Matt had worked as a cook for over six years. This day would have been Matt’s 38th birthday.
