Matthew, Bernard 'Bernie' Charles
Bernard “Bernie” Charles Matthew died Thursday, April 11, 2013, from a sudden heart attack.
Bernie was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Webster City, Iowa. He graduated from Webster City High School and attended Webster City Junior College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a radio mechanic. He moved to the Cedar Rapids area in 1960 and worked at Collins Radio, Amana Refrigeration and LeFebure before retiring.
Bernie is survived by his children, Mike (Patrice) of Ely, Kent (Karen) of South Carolina, Lisa (Jud) Starn of Palo, Matt (Anita) of Colorado, and a stepdaughter, Darcy (Rick) Smejkal of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Konni Stedman; and his significant other, Sandy Matthew.
As per his wishes, the body will be cremated and there will be no services.
Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
