Mason, Nola Meeks Mraz
UPDATED Oct. 21:
MARION - Nola Meeks Mraz Mason, 56, of Montgomery, Ala., died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, after an extended illness. A Celebration of Life will be held Oct. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.
She was a resident of Montgomery, Ala., from 2003 until her death. She was employed by the Montgomery Public School System as a classroom teacher and also worked part-time as a commercial membership salesperson for Sam's Club.
Before moving to Montgomery, Nola lived and worked for nine years in Gulf Breeze, Fla., where she cared for her niece, Marla Means, and nephew, Luke Means. She was a native of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area and lived there most of her life. Nola attended Linn-Mar High School in Marion and went on to graduate from Iowa State University.
Nola was preceded in death by her mother, Laneva Meeks.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Mason of Montgomery; daughter, Laura Simmons (Justin) of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and son, Jason Mraz of Denver, Colo., children of James Mraz, Marion; her father and stepmother, Russell and Maxine Meeks of Fairfax; siblings, Rory Meeks, Rita Meeks and Lela Kratz; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews throughout the country.
