Mashek, Mary Jean
Mary Jean Mashek, 64, of Jesup, died of cancer Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation: after
2 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a Catholic Daughters rosary at 3 p.m. and vigil service at 7 tonight. Visitation also before services Friday at the church.
Surviving are her husband, James; one son, Matthew Mashek of Jesup; three granddaughters, Amanda Ryherd of Moberly, Mo., and Miranda Mashek and Mirrisa Mashek, both of Jesup; one great-grandson, Baylor Zane Ryherd; three sisters, Rita (Virgil) Lukes of Rochester, Minn., Donna (James) Townsend of Grinnell and Cheryl (Ron) Jensen of Byron, Minn.; and four brothers, Arthur (Wanda) Swestka of Waucoma, Ronald (Joyce) Swestka of Cresco, John (Joan) Swestka Jr. of Protivin and Gary (Robbie) Swestka of Cresco.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Swestka and Marcella (Denner) Swestka; one daughter, Janice Mashek; and one granddaughter, Mercedes Mashek.
Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church and School, Camp Courageous of Iowa and to the American Cancer Society.
