MaryAnn McComas, 81, of Marion, Iowa, passed away
on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends and family from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday,
Nov. 30, at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Marion, with the Rev. David O'Connor officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
MaryAnn was born on June 15, 1940, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd August and Gwendolyn June (Birchfield) Lee. She was a 1958 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and went on to graduate from the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she earned her Teacher's Certificate in 1962, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. On Aug. 8, 1964, MaryAnn was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Leo McComas, in Des Moines, Iowa. MaryAnn was a teacher before providing childcare in her home for many years, then she worked for the American Cancer Society at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, all while serving on the Marion Water Board for 40 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she helped with countless funeral dinners. MaryAnn was a gifted seamstress, she enjoyed sewing, making quilts and costumes for local theater productions, as well as her Saturday morning neighborhood coffee club. Most of all, MaryAnn loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
MaryAnn is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Laura (Steve) McLeran of North Liberty, Iowa, Amy (Jacare) Collins of Cedar Rapids, and Rob (Ania) McComas of Iowa City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Luke (Katie) McLeran, Sam McLeran, Mollie (Jamar) Collins, Jordan McConnell, Haley McConnell, Liam McComas and Emmy McComas; six great-grandchildren, Jaela, Caden, Jordan Jr., Jack, Carter and Samaira; one brother, John (Terri) Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Renalda "Tootie" McComas of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Gwendolyn Lee; and husband, Bob McComas.
