Mary and Jerry moved to Solon because of work opportunities, the beautiful lake area and their love for the outdoors. Solon became their home, where they raised three children, Gary, Connie and David Messinger. Jerry and Mary later divorced in 1981.
In 1989, she married Williard (Bill) Zenishek, and they lived on his farm in Solon.
Mary is survived by her husband, Bill Zenishek; her son, Gary (Janet) Messinger, and daughter, Connie (Duane) Kunkel, both of Solon, and son, David (DaNette) Messinger of Cheyenne, Wyo. Her children have given Mary the joy of 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mary has one surviving sister, Emily
Sawyer, and many other family members, all of Des Moines.
On Bill's side her stepchildren are Pat (Toni) Zenishek, Theresa (Dave) Wilford, Mike (Sue) Zenishek of Solon, Debbie Zenishek of Waterloo and Gary (Sherri) Zenishek of Missouri. Her stepchildren have given Mary and Bill the joy of 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her father, Martin, and her mother, Dorothy Wallukait; and two sisters, Clara Dunlap and Alice Ellis and her husband, Lyle Ellis.
