(Mary) Yvonne Livingston Fischer was born August 16, 1926, in Iowa City, Iowa, to W. Ross and Zella Livingston. Yvonne passed away on January 14, 2024.
Yvonne graduated from the University Experimental High School in Iowa City, the University of Iowa in 1947 with a BA in Economics, and the University of Iowa in 1960 with an MA in Social Studies. Some of her many honors included Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta (freshman honorary), Mortar Board and Pi Lambda Theta. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, Scottish Highlanders marching band, and business manager for the student run "Frivol" magazine.
On April 2, 1947, she married Bennett Fischer in Iowa City. She worked at the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal, was deputy treasurer in Portage County, Wisconsin and Executive Secretary of Girl Scouts in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. In 1960, she and Bennett moved to Vinton where she was a high school teacher at Blairstown and Vinton. She later served as librarian and board member of the Vinton Public Library. Yvonne was also chairman of the 1988 Benton County History Book, was a pipe organist for several churches, member of P.E.O. Chapter HG, Minor Chord and Mentor Literature. Through the years she enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and especially spending time in Door County, Wisconsin and on the family farm in Missouri.
Survivors include her three sons, Ross (Susan) of Olathe, KS, Robert (Linda) of Vinton, IA, and Thomas of Phoenix, AZ; Eight grandchildren, Ross Il, Courtney (Rodrigo Soto), Kelly (Addison Price), Katie (Casey Ratlief), Michael (Kelly), Andrew (Katie), Brian (Monica), and Elizabeth Fischer; Four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Irene Schnoebelen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2008, and her sister, Jean Dunkle.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Friends of the Vinton Public Library or directed to the family.
