Mary Ann Woodburn, 87, of Iowa City, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Briarwood Health Care Center. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Iowa City, with a memorial service directly following at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Iowa, First Presbyterian Church or Iowa City Host Noon Lions Club.
Mary Ann was born March 19, 1927, in Falls City, Neb., the daughter of George and Hortense (Kauffman) Lessel. She graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., with a bachelor's degree and later from the University of Iowa, with a master's in elementary education. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Bob Woodburn on Aug. 4, 1984, in Iowa City.
She taught at Robert Lucas School for 25 years. Mary Ann was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband, Bob; one son, James (Vicky) Showman of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Showman of Ottumwa; four stepchildren, Mark (Deborah) Woodburn of North Liberty, Sharon Schluttenfer of Lone Tree, Richard (Aimee) Woodburn of Iowa City and Mary Lisa (Brad) Wollnik of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie, Jerry and Robbie; and 15 stepgrand children, Billy, Todd, Corey, Drew, Abbie, Jamie, Jackie, Sam, Jennifer, Angela, Elizabeth, Ashlyn, Nathan, Jack and Ethan.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Showman; two children, Gerald Showman Jr. and Richard Showman; two sisters, Geraldine Graybel and Gretchen Reece; and one grandchild, Diana Showman.
