MARY KATHERINE (MARY KAY) WINTER

Mary Katherine (Mary Kay) Winter, 84, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Oct. 9, 2017.
Mary Katherine Rader was born Oct. 21, 1932, on the family farm south of Sumner. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner. Mary Kay attended rural country school and graduated from Sumner High School. She received a teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College and taught at Westgate, Buck Creek and Lawler.
She married Martin J. Winter of Lawler
on Aug. 24, 1954. They farmed north of Sumner until retiring to Shell Rock and, most recently, she resided at The Villages in Marion.
Mary Kay enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles and welcoming new residents. Her mind was sharp right up until the end, but her heart just couldn't keep up.
Mary Kay is survived by five children: Patricia (Daryl) Wenthe of Marion, Linda Winter of Kansas City, Mo., Dennis (Loredana) Winter of West Des Moines, Larry (Tina Boesenberg) Winter of Center Point and Debra (Dan) Callahan of Marion; eight grandchildren: Jeff (Kathleen) Wenthe and Jennifer (Senica) Fisher, Dennis Jr. and Linda Mary Katherine Winter, Rachel Johnson, Estee and Ellie Winter and Claire and Cooper Callahan; three great-grandchildren, Gracelyn, Beckett and Reid Fisher; sisters, Corrinne Meyer of Sumner and Flora (Ron) Hogue of Chesterfield, Mo.; and sisters-in-law, Mildred Rader and Pauline Rader, both of Sumner; and Koty Boesenberg, son of Tina.
In addition to her parents, Edmund and Florence (Ludwig) Rader, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald, Walter and Verlynn; and brother-in- law, Milton "Shorty" Meyer.
A memorial Mass will be Friday, Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Sumner and interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
