MARY WETRICH
Wellman
Mary Evelyn Wetrich passed away Saturday,
July 19, 2014, at Maplewood Manor in Keota, at the age of 93.
Evelyn was born March 13, 1921, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Orval and Ora (Beardsley) Carter. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Marshalltown and attended three years at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. On Jan. 8, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ward
Arthur Wetrich in New
Orleans. Since Ward was in the service, they lived in a number of states, until moving to their home in rural Wellman in 1944.
Evelyn worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, the Urology Department at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clincis, was a private nurse for
local residents of Wellman and was a librarian at the Wellman-Scofield Public
Library.
She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She became a resident of Maplewood Manor in Keota in November 2010.
Evelyn enjoyed reading books, cooking for her
family, dancing, knitting, crocheting and quilting.
She is survived by a son, Robert Wetrich; a daughter, Susan (Russell) Hill, all of Wellman; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eugene Carter of Baltimore, Md.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ward; two sisters, Ruth Price and Juanita Maxfield; and a brother, Thomas Carter.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wellman. Father David Brownfield will officate. Burial will be held in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for St.
Joseph's Catholic Church and the Wellman-Scofield Public Library.
