Mary Lenora Topping, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away March 4, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Randy Vartabedian officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Mary is survived by her children, Mary Jo (Gary) Richardson of Cedar Rapids, Phyllis Hunter of Houston, Texas, Phillip (Donna) Hunter of Cedar Rapids, Michael Hunter of Morning Sun, Iowa, John Hunter of Cedar Rapids, Ron (Nancy) Hunter of Watertown, Minn., and Mark (Lisa) Hunter of Belleview, Neb.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Carroll of Macon, Ga.; many stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Hunter and Acil Topping; six brothers; and four sisters.
Mary was born Oct. 28, 1928, in Valdosta, Ga., the daughter of Ezekiel and Bertha (Boutwell) McInvale. She married Joseph Hunter in 1945. Mary married Acil Topping in 1971. She retired from Collins Radio/Rockwell Collins, Cedar Rapids. Mary was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids.
She will be remembered lovingly for teaching her children the important values of honesty, hard work and education.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the estate of Mary Topping.
