MARY DELORAS STREIF
Manchester
Mary Deloras Streif, 92, of Manchester, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born July 25, 1923, near Farley, the daughter of John and Mary (Stokes) Wall. Mary attended rural school south of Farley.
On June 23, 1945, Mary was united in marriage to Leslie Streif in Charles City. Two children were born to this union. The family farmed near Epworth until 1958. They then moved south of Manchester. In 1962, they moved to a farm northeast of Manchester. Mary and Leslie moved to Manchester in 1989.
Mary was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Independence. She taught her children to care for others, love one another and always be honest and do the right thing. Mary had a smile for everyone. You never left her house hungry. Mary loved traveling with the Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football teams, from regular games to bowl games. She met a lot of great Hawkeye fans.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Leslie; a son, John Streif of Iowa City; a daughter, Joan (Steve) Hillers of Manchester; three grandchildren, David (Wanda) Hillers of Manchester and Dawn (Richard) Holtz and Daniel (Nicki) Hillers, all of Urbana; six great-grandchildren, Logan and Claire Holtz, Brock and Kendra Hillers and Mya and Kalyn Hillers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Wall; one sister, Mabel O'Meara; and five brothers, Edward, Arnold, John, Harold and Eldon Wall.

Funeral service: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
