MARY ELLEN (BEASLEY) STENINGER

Mary Ellen (Beasley) Steninger, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, left her journey on Earth to join her heavenly Father and her husband, Dick, on Dec. 28, 2015. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where a visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Christopher Podhajsky will officiate. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Iowa City at 12:30 p.m. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary Ellen was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on Feb. 13, 1927, to Leo and Helen (Patterson) Beasley. She attended St. Patrick Catholic School.
In 1945, Mary Ellen married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Steninger, in Iowa City. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1954. Whether in Iowa City or Cedar Rapids, Mary Ellen made their house a home and supported Dick in his work and volunteering. She loved her family, enjoyed the activities of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed planning the decoration of their home and creating the landscaping of the yard with Dick.
Mary Ellen is survived by a daughter, Diane Sondrol of Decorah; a son, David (Rose Anne) of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Erik Sondrol, Karn (Jon) Pankow and Sarah Steninger (Mike Wessels); great- grandchildren, Ethan Pankow, Jonah Pankow, Taryan Barrick and Mara Pankow; sisters, Florence Hagen and Catherine (Duane) Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard (Dick) Steninger; infant son, Richard Steninger; brothers, Bruce, Herbert, Arthur and Francis Beasley; and sisters, Jane Hanrahan, Renata Miller and Nellie Sindelar.
Family would like to extend special thanks to her doctors, nurses, aides and friend Penny Bear for the special care given Mary Ellen.
