Mary Frances Snarzyk, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, in the chapel at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown in the Malloy Building. Burial: Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery, Marshalltown. Friends may visit with the family immediately before the funeral at the Iowa Veterans Home. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mary is survived by her husband, T.J.; two daughters, Vicki Snarzyk and Judy Fletcher, both of Cedar Rapids; son, Brian (Suzanne) Snarzyk of Vienna, Va.; three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Abigail and Emily; brother, Paul (Mary) Filla of Belle, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gertrude and Theresa; and two brothers, Ben and Larry.
Mary was born May 3, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Bernard and Frances Filla. She married Thaddeus Joseph "T.J." Snarzyk on April 12, 1958, in St. Louis. Mary was a nurse for many years before becoming a health inspector with the State of Iowa Department of Health for nearly 30 years.
Mary enjoyed knitting, quilting, baking and doing needlework. She also liked to travel with her family. Mary's favorite thing to do was to spend time with her children, grandchildren and her dogs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Fur Fun Rescue or East Central Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
