Mary Ellen Rosekrans Smith passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at First Christian Church in Vinton, with Pastor Connie Wacht officiating. Com-mittal services will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be at the church Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. To honor Mary's wishes her body was cremated and a memorial fund has been established.
Mary was born April 11, 1934, to Milton and Elsa (Kautz) Sallee in Des Plaines, Ill., and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1952. On March 7, 1953, she married Richard Floyd Rosekrans at Prairie Creek Christian Church and they raised four children. Richard "Dick" preceded her in death in 1988. She married George Smith on July 4, 1990. George preceded Mary in death in 2006.
Mary is survived by her children, Ricky Lee (Brenda) Rosekrans, Lexington, Mo., Carilyn Sue (Thomas) Engledow, Vinton, Rita Rae (Rob Leblanc) Lane, Waltham, Mass., and Rodney Jay (Gayle) Rosekrans of Missouri; her grandchildren, Dan and Alesia Engledow, Ashley Payne and Brenden Lane, Darcie Loffler, Rishae, William and Stanley Rosekrans, Steven and Terry Burgess; 14 great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Kevin (Roxie) Smith and Bonnie (John) Peal; and her stepgrand-children, Rachael and Samantha Smith and Chris and Jenny Peal.
