Mary Ann Siebels, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. The Rev. Wade Reddy will officiate at the services. Memorials may be made to the Monticello Public Library or Wayne Zion Lutheran Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan Siebels (Jon Turnquist) Ossining, N.Y., and Sue (Mike) Holmes, Monticello; her eight grandchildren, Kelsi (Drew Giese) Holmes, Mattea, Zachary, Elizabeth and Robby Holmes, J.T., Stone and Malin-Skye Turnquist; a sister, Gloria Jepsen, Clinton; and a brother, Russell (Janet) Eggers, Savanna, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 2000; and a very special friend, Merle Jansen, in 2013; her sisters, Dolores Jaeckle, in 1945, and Ruby Mattke, in 2012; and a brother, Garnet Eggers, in 2017.
Mary Ann Eggers was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Clinton, County, Iowa, the fifth of six children born to Edward A. and Henrietta Huebner Eggers. She attended Elk River No. 7 School and graduated from Miles High School in 1950. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) and continued her education at the University of Iowa with a master's degree in education in 1966. She taught in Elwood and Anamosa for a total of 33 years. Mary Ann Eggers and John F. Siebels were married on July 17, 1960, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello. The couple made their home in Amber.
Mary was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church and was active in the Bible study. She also belonged to the Monticello Garden Club. For many years, she gave programs on wildflowers and their importance in the ecosystem. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, painting, dancing, playing 500 and the outdoors.
