Mary R. Sauser, 96, of Dubuque, formerly of Cascade, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Stonehill Care Center. Visitation for Mary will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service, at the Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen
Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd, Dubuque. Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery,
Cascade.
Mrs. Sauser was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Leo H. and Lucy (Benn) White. She graduated from St. Paul High School, Worthington, Iowa; and Lenox College, Hopkinton, Iowa. She taught in rural schools, prior to her
marriage.
Mary was united in marriage to Joseph F. Sauser on Sept. 22, 1945, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Worthington. Mary and her husband operated Sauser's Dairy and then farmed at Cascade, before their retirement to Dubuque. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1981.
Since 1981, Mary had been a member of St. Anthony Parish, its rosary society, St. Bernadette Circle, A.C.C.W., the Catholic Daughters of the America Court 1287, Stonehill Aux-iliary and Dubuque Arboretum volunteers.
Surviving Mary are her children, Frank (Diana) Sauser of Rock Island, Ill., Steve (Barb) Sauser of Cascade, Margaret (Joe) Noonan of San Antonio, Texas, Anne Sutter (Ron Carpenter) of Davenport, Allan (Doris) Sauser of Cascade, Mary Jane (Dan)
Driscoll of Dubuque, Ed (Joan) Sauser of Monticello, Ray (Jane) Sauser of Dyersville, Bill (Vickie) Sauser of Worthington and Joan (Leo) Hawkins of Lawrence, Kan.; 24 grandchildren, Katherine (Sauser) Phillips, Jon Sauser, Pat, Chris and Andy Noonan, Mark Sutter, Brian, Nick and Mike Sauser, Michelle (Driscoll) Vogler, Tom and Leah Driscoll, Sean, Joel and Eric Sauser, Todd, Angela and Molly Sauser, Jessica Pitz, and Brad, Thomas, Shawna, Samantha and William Sauser; 36 great-grandchildren; a
sister, Terese (Paul) Reittinger of Richardson, Texas; and a sister in-law, Rosie White of Cascade.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph F.; two children, Thomas and Joseph N. Sauser; three brothers and spouses, Leo (Olive) White, Gerald (Delores) White and Aelred (Willetta) White; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Leo (Adeline) Sauser, Gertrude (Fred) Ertl and Theresa Sauser.
Mary was a very loving mother, grandma and great-grandma, whose greatest joy was being with her family. She was an exemplary witness of a woman of deep faith, selflessness, kindness to all and always staying positive. She will always be remembered for her gentle nature, the twinkle in her eye and her beautiful, loving smile.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Anthony Church, Stonehill Care Center or EWTN, in Mary's memory.
