Mary Lucile Robinson, 87, of Coggon, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at UnityPoint Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at United Parish Church, Coggon, officiated by Pastor Sheri Andersen.
Mary Lu was born May 30, 1930, in Ryan, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Lucile (Kirkpatrick) Henderson. She graduated from Coggon High School in 1947, and attended Iowa State Teacher's College, receiving her teaching certificate. On Oct. 29, 1950, in Coggon, Iowa, Mary Lu was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Paul Robinson. Together they established their family farm and raised four children near Coggon. She taught piano lessons to numerous children for 40 years. Mary Lu worked at the Delaware County ASCS office until 1996. After her retirement, she continued working part time at Kohl's. Mary Lu was an active volunteer with several organizations, including the North Linn Elementary School, Faith Mission Thrift Store and Meals on Wheels. She was a longtime member of the United Parish Church in Coggon, sharing her love of the Lord. Mary Lu also was a member of LADOS and local Coggon coffee groups. She played the organ and piano at the Silver Creek Church and United Parish Church. Mary Lu enjoyed quilting, gardening and flowers, square dancing, traveling and baking breads and sweets for all.
Mary Lu is survived by her children, Anita Haughenbury and husband, Jim, of Coggon, Tom Robinson and wife, Laura, of Coggon, Marty Robinson and wife, Nina, of Windsor, Colo., and Paula Camargo and husband, Ronaldo, of Clermont, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Luke and wife, Jamie, Bret and wife, Jen, Jana and husband, Tim, Kara and husband, Jamie, Lauren and husband, Brian, Maria, Alosha, Marie, Merrill and husband, Hunter, and Paul; 14 great-grandchildren, Cade, Tate, Allie, Lucy, James, Will, Bennett, Nate, Silas, Oliver, Jonas, River, Maddox, and Reese; sister and best friend, Jean Caldwell of Coggon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donna Robinson, Dave Robinson, C.J. Robinson and Steve and wife, Judy, Robinson; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, who passed away in 1996; infant daughter, Rose Mary; great-grandchild, Grant; and siblings Don Henderson and Eleanor Price.
A memorial fund has been established in Mary Lu's memory.
