Ellen Kay Rink, 74, of Marion, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral service outside of Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services in Marion. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. before the service. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of over 30 years, Patrick "Shorty" Rink; children, James Dean of Anamosa, Donna Wyant and JoEllen Bednarowicz of Cedar Rapids, John Dean of Marion, David (Roxanna) Bednar of St. Charles, Tina (Allen) Klaugh of Virginia, James "Rick" (Cynda) Rink of Germany, Eric (Keiko) Rink of Hawaii and Melanie White of Texas; 15 grandchildren; seven (and one any day) great- grandchildren; brother, Michael Dougherty; and sister, Margaret Konie.
Ellen was born to Donald and Harriette (Danaher) Dougherty on Feb. 27, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On Dec. 28, 1985, she married "Shorty," with whom she raised their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
She worked as an accountant for several companies, including Rockwell Collins, where she switched her career to a certified travel agent. Ellen quickly became highly respected in the travel field, receiving numerous compliments for her excellent customer service.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gerald; and granddaughter, Sarah Matthews.
