Mary K. Rigdon, 74, of Fairbank, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Mary was born on Jan. 9, 1941, near Lamont, Iowa, the daughter of F.D. "Bill" and Hazel (Anderson) Brown. She was raised on the Brown family farm near Dunkerton, Iowa, and was a 1958 graduate of Dunkerton High School. On Sept. 29, 1962, she was married to Russell Henry Rigdon II in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple later divorced. She was co-owner of Bright Way Window Cleaning Company and later worked in the dietary department of the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and helping anyone in need.
Mary is survived by four children, Kevin (Susan) Rigdon, Ely, Kent (Jennifer) Rigdon, Swisher, Julie (Dan) Halse, Alexandria, Va., and Russell Henry Rigdon III, Waukee; eight grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters, Bernie (Doris) Brown, Dunkerton, Barbara Forkner, Springville, Bernadine (Tom) Wilkinson, Cedar Rapids, Tom Brown, Dunkerton, Pat Brown, Cedar Rapids, Mike (Bonnie) Brown, Cedar Falls, Steve Brown, Fairbank, John (Shelley) Brown, Independence, Paul (Cindy) Brown, Independence, and Dennis (Janet) Brown, Newhall; and 38 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Sharon Bainbridge officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
