Mary Ann Peiffer, 87, of Cascade, formerly of Worthington and rural Delhi, died Monday, April 6, 2015, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Mary may call from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, April 8, at Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m. Services for Mary will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Delhi.
Mary was born Jan. 19, 1928, in rural Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Florian and Vita Mary (Kalb) Meis. She graduated from Oelwein High School. She attended Upper Iowa University for one year and taught in rural schools until her marriage. On Feb. 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Peiffer at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Temple Hill.
She was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade.
She is survived by five children, Lawrence Peiffer of Hopkinton, Joseph (Becky) Peiffer of Marion, Theresa Peiffer of Monticello, Leo (Shirley) Peiffer of Langworthy and Carl Peiffer of Dubuque; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four siblings, Rose Fischer of Manchester, James Meis of Pacific, Mo., Vincent Meis of Dubuque and Margaret Meis of Independence, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Dr. William Mehrl of Cascade; and two sisters-in-law, Kay Meis of Dubuque and Mary Meis of Adel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, on March 12, 2007; two sons, Paul on Dec. 15, 2007, and one in infancy; two brothers, John and Eugene "Gene" Meis; one brother-in-law, Sylvester Fisher; and one sister-in-law, Mary Mehrl.
