Mary Ellen Novak, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Father Mark Reasoner. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Otto Novak of Cedar Rapids; children, Alan (Cythina) Novak of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Diane) Novak of Solon, Mark (Kevin) Novak of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Shari (Paul) Viktora of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Richard Bevins of McAllen, Texas, Jack Bevins of Loveland, Colo., and Joyce Wedo of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Francis; and one sister, Betty.
Mary Ellen was born in Parnell, Iowa, daughter of George and Helen (Ward) Bevins. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School and then Hamilton Business College. On Sept. 16, 1950, she married Otto Novak at St. Patrick's Church. She worked at Rockwell as a secretary for 20 years, retiring in 1984.
Mary Ellen was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and was active in Mother Cabrini Circle.
A memorial fund has been established for Mary Ellen.
