MARY MURRAY
Cedar Rapids
Mary Louise Murray passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Cedar Rapids, at Heritage Nursing & Rehab, where she had been a resident since May 2011, after a hip fracture.
Mary was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved life. In accordance with her wishes, no memorial service will be held. To honor her memory and strong love for animals and especially cats, all donations may be directed to Last Hope Animal Rescue of Iowa (www.
lasthoperescueia.org).
Mary was born March 9, 1926, in Weldon, Iowa, to Albert G. and Tessie (Trisler) Williams. She spent her formative years in Osceola, Iowa, and in 1961, she and husband, "Speed" moved to Cedar Rapids.
She had a special fondness for nature, cats, raising and riding horses and enjoyed working tirelessly on the grounds of her two acre estate well into her 80s. She loved sunshine, Pepsi Cola and all things country western.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brother,
Gerald E.
Williams of Winterset; her husband,
Martin
Vincent Murray (Speed); and son,
Monty Martin Murray.
She will be missed by family and friends, including the Paul Randall
Keeling family; Lorri Westrom Provow; special friend and caregiver,
Rebecca Sullens and her family, Julie Johnson; nurturing friend and roommate, "Ginny;" and other faithful friends.
Special thanks to the staff at Heritage Nursing and Rehab for giving her such wonderful care and quality of life in her final years and to Care Initiatives Hospice for their attentiveness and comfort in her final days.
