Mary Marie McSparran, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died April 22, 2015, at West Ridge Care Center after a brief illness.
Mary was preceded in death in 2008 by her beloved husband of 62 years, James.
Mary was born June 17, 1926, in Jackson, Neb. She was the daughter of Frank W. and Elsie Knudson Pritchard and graduated from Sioux City High School. Mary was united in marriage with James S. McSparran on June 12, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City,
Iowa.
A devoted grandmother, Mary had a special
relationship with her grandson, Alexander Bendlage of Cedar Rapids.
Mary is also survived by her children, Kristine (Chuck) Bendlage, Cynthia Binder and James A.
(Nancy) McSparran and his children, Nathan and Sarah McSparran; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Venona Wells.
Mary was employed as a legal secretary for Corbett Law Firm. Mary and James were the owners of McSparran Body Shop in Sioux City for many years.
The family extends
special thanks to the
nursing staff and hospice staff at West Ridge for their care and compassion.
Mary was a lifetime member of Trinity
Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
Mary and James spent their entire married life in Sioux City and will be
reunited again in a private graveside service to be held at a later date in Graceland Cemetery.
Mary and James were longtime members of the Sioux City Antique Car Club and memorials may be directed to the club.
