Mary Lavonne McMahon, 98, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at home. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: One hour before the service with a rosary service beginning at 9 a.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, James "Mike" (Neta) McMahon, Kathy Neff (Rob Parker) and John McMahon (Jessica Wiebrand); 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many close nieces and nephews; and several other extended family members and friends.
Mary was born Oct. 26, 1917, to Frank and Evelyn (Barron) Scollon, in Union Township, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Cedar Rapids, in 1936. She married Chauncey Wade McMahon in Cedar Rapids on July 31, 1940. Music played a large part in Mary's life. In her younger years, she was a dancer for a traveling dancing troupe that practiced with the Rockettes, a drummer for an all-girls' band and played the piano and organ for many years. She shared these talents volunteering over 2,000 hours at Mercy Hospital playing the piano.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chauncey; and siblings, Vernon, Audrey, Devere, Cletus and Delore.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
