Mary Lousie (Schatzle) Wright Strief, 90, of Marion, formerly of Troy Mills and Alburnett, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. The family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Jon Moss. Burial will take place at Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Mary was born April 30, 1928, the daughter of Albert and Bessie (Barker) Schatzle. She graduated from Alburnett High School and attended Paris Beauty School and Cedar Rapids Business College. Mary was married to Arlo Wright and to this union four children were born. They later divorced. She was married to Norman Strief, who passed away in 2014. Mary was employed by Alburnett Community Schools, Farmers State Bank in Alburnett and Walmart. Mary was a member of Troy Mills Christian Church.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Kristine ("Bud") Blackford of Alburnett, Craig (Jackie) Wright of Alburnett, Kevin (Debra) Wright of Marion and Kent (Betty) Wright of Alburnett; stepchildren, Gary, Jeff (Lois), Terri (Janet) and Michael (Kurt); 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and twin sister, Martha Morris of Hiawatha.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Arlo and Norman; brothers, Lester and Eugene Schatzle; sisters, Lucille Estling and Mae Crosby; and grandsons, Scott Blackford and Corey Wright.
