Mary Lou Auen Dorpinghaus, 74, of Maumelle, Ark., formerly of Iowa City, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
She was born in Carroll, Iowa, to Peter Joseph and
Henrietta Stoffel Auen.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia Millhollin; and brother-in-law, Tom Millhollin.
Mary worked for Bell Telephone Co., Owens Brush and the Iowa City School District. Mary also worked as a homemaker and a daycare provider.
She enjoyed reading, shopping and crocheting, but most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin F. Dorpinghaus; two daughters, Lori Patterson of Maumelle, Ark., and Julie Dorpinghaus Nevills and husband Dennis of Davenport; the joy of her life, her two grand- children, William Drake Patterson and Emeleigh Justine Nevills; and two brothers, Dennis Auen and Kenneth Auen and wife Shirley.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial following at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with a vigil service at 3 p.m.
